Free 3D Printed Face Shields for Hospitals and Professionals

By April 2, 2020March 22nd, 2021No Comments

Over 1,910 face shields and masks have been donated to date.

We’ve shifted our 3D printing farm from printing SnapPlates to printing face shields and masks. These supplies are then being donated to hospitals and care takers around the country for FREE.

If you are in need of these supplies email us at: Contact@LivingTesla.com

If you want to help this effort you can donate below or simply share this site to those who may be in need for their awareness of supporting resources.

AutoShield by LivingTesla

There are endless solutions out there and we’ve tried a few while we collecting feedback from recipients in the field. Everyone of these solutions have their own pros/cons and modes of use. Ultimately, we decided to create our own.

The AutoShield is designed to print faster and support automated bed removal for continuous printing. It prints in about half an hour compared to 45 minutes and 90 minutes for the other options and it is designed to be automatically removed from the printer bed and restart for continuous printing. For the clear shield, it uses 8.5×11″ transparency sheets or 5 mil laminate sheets with holes punched by a US 3-hole punch offset by 1″.

Of course we’re biased, but we also think it’s the prettiest.

You can find the files to print your own at PrusaPrinters and collaborate with us at GitHub.

Creating Your Own Transparent Face Shields

The initial round of face shields we have been shipping come with Apollo Transparency Film (100 sheets) which can be easily hole punched to fit the visors. The Prusa shields require an adjustable double punch or single punch, where as the 3DVerkstan and our AutoShield can use a standard US 3 Hole punch with included 1/2″ offset spacer or ruler.

Alternate transparent sheet solution we’ve used are heavy duty laminate sheets ran through a lamination machine to make them clear. These can make for thicker and more heavy duty face shields which will last longer.

AutoShield uses the same hole spacing as shown in this 3-hole punch demo: Demo of preparing new shield with a 3-hole punch

We’d also love to hear feedback from those who have used the above items as to which were most useful and any other requests. These things should be helpful and functional.

Donations

Everything we deliver is free of charge to the recipients. If you’re unable to print your own, but want to contribute, you can donate to our cause. Donations will be used to fund materials, supplies, and shipping.
