Is your charge speed reduced?

By October 11, 2019No Comments

If you haven’t paid attention to your charging speed in a while, you may want to check to see if everything is working right. The Long Range Model 3 is capable of charging at up to 48A, but mine was being limited to 32A. It charged fine, just slower than normal. It did give a warning message “Charge speed reduced, unplug and try again”, but since I only charge at night and the message would clear after it was charged, I never saw it.

I found a TMC thread where others were having the same issue, including a standard range owner who was being limited to 16A. They ended up having their power conversion systems replaced, which you can find in the Tesla parts catalog. The long range uses part number 1135558-00-D and the standard range is part number 1135558-01-D.

If you don’t have access to a wall connector that can charge higher than 32A, you can check for local destination chargers by tapping the icon in the bottom right corner of your screen and looking for anything showing greater than 8kW.
