Like many vehicles today, the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y do not come with a spare tire. While under warranty, they do have roadside assistance to help with a flat tire, but that can be time-consuming and frustrating, especially if the flat tire is simply due to a nail or other puncture in the tire tread.
Often, even with minor sidewall damage, simply adding air to the tire is enough to limp to a nearby tire-repair shop or at least a safe area.
If the damage is limited to the tread, a tire plug can even last the life of the tire. To prepare for such a situation, we've assembled a tire repair kit and an air compressor that look good, don't rattle, and fit perfectly in the side pocket of the Model 3 or Model Y trunk.
The air compressor has a digital display with automatic shut-off. For my 18" tires, I simply set it to 42 psig, connect it, and let it run until it stops. The tire repair kit has all of the necessary tools to remove a nail, ream the hole, plug the hole, and cut off the excess.
