After extensive testing, YouTuber Adam Davenport found that a plastic clip on the bottom of the Tesla Model 3 or Model Y cabin air filter helps keep moisture from saturating the filter and causing that foul rotten egg/vinegar/moldy/cheesy/feet smell! You can read more about how we fixed the bad smell in our personal Teslas here, but the TL;DR version is that evaporator cleaner and new filters get rid of the smelly bacteria and the clip acts as a moisture barrier to keep it from coming back.

Do I have to replace the filters and clean the evaporator?

If you already have the bad smell, it's best to clean the housing and replace the filters to start fresh by removing as much bacteria from the system as possible.

If you don't have the smell yet, you can install just the clip on your current filters as a preventive measure.

Are the replacement filters the same as the OEM filters?

They use an equivalent filter material and activated carbon that is very similar to the OEM filters supplied by Tesla.

Easy enough

So far it has done the job of what it said it was going to do - removed the nasty odor from our Tesla. The written instructions that came with it were not clear enough for me to follow, however the video to install was very thorough and filled in the gaps for me.

Kit came with everything to clean and replace the filters. Filters look open and behave as such. Hopefully the clip does the trick.

The Clip seems good. Wish they would also sell the WIX microban filters too.

Clip seems to do well! It's looks like that youtube engineer guy recommends using the microban WIX filters along with the plastic clip. So an option to buy the WIX microban filters would be nice!
