Description

SnapPlate removable front license plate mounts install and completely remove in seconds. The clean, minimal design blends perfectly with the RZ front end when it’s installed and leaves no unsightly hardware behind when it’s removed. The third-generation plate mount is height adjustable with high, center, and low mounting positions to suit your taste.

SnapPlates are designed, printed, and assembled in California by electric vehicle owners and fans. We strive to reduce our environmental impact by using recycled plastics that are Made in the USA and by using Prusa 3D printers to make strong parts with internal structures that optimize our use of plastics.

The idea for SnapPlate was born when one of our co-founders got a ticket for not having a front license plate the same weekend he bought a new 3D printer. As a self-proclaimed front-license-plate hater, he wanted something that was easy to install when traveling to areas that enforce front license plate use and easy to remove the rest of the time. None of the options available had every feature we wanted, so we made one…and then all our Tesla friends wanted one too.

SnapPlate attaches and removes in seconds and is:

  • Paint-safe
  • Grille-safe
  • Radiator-safe
  • Sensor-safe

Hanging a license plate off the front of the plastic grille is actually pretty dangerous for the grille and grille replacements are expensive. To make SnapPlate grille-safe, we designed it to break away if it is stressed by car washes, fender benders, vandals, etc. We know things happen, so we sell replacement parts for less than it costs us to make and ship them.

Each SnapPlate comes with:

  • One fully-assembled front license plate mount, ready for your license plate
  • Four black and four silver torx security screws for the plate
  • One black torx security screw to optionally secure it to the car
  • One torx security screwdriver to keep in the car
  • One zippered case to keep all the accessories tidy in your car

SnapPlate is perfect to:

  • Remove your plate for car shows
  • Install to avoid tickets while parked at a meter
  • Remove to clean your car at home or at a car wash
  • Install for toll-by-plate roads and bridges
  • Deter theft with torx security screws on the plate and mount
  • Install a temporary plate to support your favorite team on game day

Features

Paint-Safe*:

Once installed, SnapPlate sits away from the paint and is strong enough to resist wind and weather without touching the bumper. Take care during installation to not touch the painted parts of the car.

Grille-Safe*:

SnapPlate has four latches that fit perfectly through and behind the grille openings to install, but then rotate to hold. They hold it firmly in place without stressing the plastic grille. It’s also flexible enough to not break the grille if it is accidentally pushed into the bumper.

Radiator-Safe*:

SnapPlate is designed to minimize the loss of airflow to the radiator and is positioned to avoid active dampers.

Sensor-Safe:

SnapPlate positions the license plate close the factory location to avoid interfering with radar and ultrasonic parking sensors.

*SnapPlate won’t damage paint, block airflow to the radiator, or damage the grille when installed correctly and used under normal circumstances. In the event of an accident this product is not intended to provide protection to prevent vehicle damage and we are not liable for any damages to any vehicles, people, or any objects caused as a result of the use of this product.

Proudly Printed

3D printing enables us to create a very strong product with an internal structure that is 90% air. That makes it strong while using far less plastic than other processes.

Injection molding is great for making millions of simple things, but it’s very expensive for small quantities of complicated things like this. If not for 3D printing, SnapPlate probably wouldn’t exist or it would cost much more.

SnapPlate is made of quality plastic on quality Prusa printers

SnapPlate in progress

One consideration of 3D printing is that the surface finish is different from injection molded parts. Since it makes the parts one layer at a time, it has some distinct features. Here some examples:

Layers – parts are printed one layer at a time

3D Printed Layers near Security Screw Hole

Layers near Security Screw Hole

Steps – the layers are visible as steps on slanted surfaces

3D printed stepped layers of SnapPlate

Stepped Layers

Strings – fine, easily-removable strings are sometimes left behind

3D printed fine strings on SnapPlate

Small Holes – where the printer changes layers

FAQ

What is your return policy?

If you’re not satisfied, you have 30 days to return SnapPlate for a full refund. See our returns and refunds policy for details.

What is the warranty?

We’ll give you 180 days to make sure it can hold up to your local weather. See our returns and refunds policy for details.

Can I use a license plate holder or frame with SnapPlate?

If the frame is 1/4″ (6mm) or less then the included 10mm screws will work fine. If you need longer, we have 16mm and 20mm available.

Are SnapPlates car wash safe?

Most touchless car washes are ok, but touch washes aren’t safe for this or any other aftermarket license plate mount. There’s just too much risk of damaging the plastic grille or bumper on the vehicle to not recommend removing it for all automated car washes. It’s one of the reasons we made SnapPlates quick and easy to remove, but if keeping it on for car washes is important to you, we can really only recommend the factory adhesive or screw mount for your vehicle. We know things happen though, so we offer low-cost replacement parts for everything we make. We’d much rather replace inexpensive SnapPlate parts than see a vehicle damaged.

If SnapPlate is so easy to remove, won’t it be easy to steal?

If someone knows enough to steal it, they should know that they’ll be staring at the front Sentry camera while they’re doing it, but if theft is a concern for you, just screw the included security screw into the hole in the side of SnapPlate to make it much harder to remove.

Do you sell spare parts? For how much?

Can I get the files to print my own parts?

Not at this time, but we plan to open source it in the future when making them ourselves is no longer fun.

Will SnapPlate fade in the sun?

PETG plastic is UV stable, but when it is mounted on the car, there is very little direct sun on it anyway.

Will wind push the plate against the bumper? What about speed bumps?

We tested SnapPlate at over 80 mph and over sharp speed bumps at 20 mph with no issues. Check out our deflection testing video:
