How to Install the SnapPlate on Rivian R1T & R1S 2022+

Installation

  • Comparison of a vehicles front view using different front license plate heights: Factory Plate, SnapPlate High, SnapPlate Center, and SnapPlate Low, showing varying road visibility.

    Step 1

Plate mounts are shipped in the high position by default. If you prefer a different position, follow the Plate Height Adjustment instructions ☝️ to adjust before continuing.

  • Hands holding and installing a California license plate labeled SNAPPLATE with a screwdriver against a white background.

    Step 2

Install your license plate using four of the included black or silver torx security screws.

  • Hands adjusting a black mechanical device with multiple cylindrical components against a white background.

    Step 3

Press and hold the right button to rotate the latches open.

  • A hand pulls a small rectangular device from the grille of a blue vehicle, located above the California license plate.

    Step 4

Insert SnapPlate into the center of the grille and release the right button.

  • A hand reaches under the front of a blue car, touching a black component near the license plate.

    Step 5

Important! Press the left button to rotate the latches closed and engage the magnets.

If the button is too difficult to fully close or the SnapPlate feels loose on the grille, adjust the latches following the Grille Depth Adjustment instructions. ☝️

  • Close-up of a black object with rectangular vents and a slanted edge, featuring a small round screw on the corner.

    Step 6

Check that the right button is flush with the body to confirm that the latches are fully closed.

  • Close-up of a black metal screw partially unscrewed from a car grille next to a blue panel.

    Step 7

Optionally, install a black anti-theft security screw in the hole near the right button.

Note: If the screw doesn’t reach, the SnapPlate is not securely attached to the grille. Make sure the latches are fully closed from Step 5 before driving.

  • Hands are assembling or disassembling a black plastic component with multiple slots and pins, featuring a metallic wristwatch.

    Step 8

Don’t forget to remove SnapPlates for automated car washes. Most touchless washes are fine, but better to be on the safe side!

Plate Height Adjustment

  • Comparison of front license plate heights on a vehicle: Factory Plate, SnapPlate High, SnapPlate Center, and SnapPlate Low, shown through front view images and camera displays.

    Step 1

Plate mounts ship in the high position by default, but are adjustable into 5 possible positions.

We recommend high for the best aesthetics, low for the least camera obstruction, or center for a nice balance of both.

  • A screwdriver is tightening a side screw on a black metal bracket with a series of holes and a rectangular cutout.

    Step 2

Remove the four screws holding the plate mounts to the body.

For installation in the high position go to Step 3.
For installation in the center position go to Step 4.
For installation in the low position go to Step 5.

  • A person uses a red-handled screwdriver to assemble or adjust a black plastic frame with multiple holes and a rectangular cutout.

    Step 3 (High)

Position the plate mounts with the bottom lined up with the body and install screws in the center and lowest positions.

    Go to Step 6

  • Person using a red-handled screwdriver to insert a screw into a black metal bracket with multiple holes.

    Step 4 (Center)

Position the plate mounts with one hole below the base. Install screws in the second holes from the ends.

    Go to Step 6

  • A hand uses a screwdriver to insert a screw into a black rectangular bracket or frame against a white background.

    Step 5 (Low)

Position the plate mounts with the center holes in line with the bottom holes in the base. Install screws in the top and center holes.

    Go to Step 6

Grille Depth Adjustment

  • Orange screwdriver handle and removable double-ended metal bit on a white background.

    Step 1

Remove the T10/T25 bit from the screwdriver handle and reinstall with the T10 bit facing out.

  • Black mechanical component with three orange circles highlighting screws on the top section. The lower portion has a rectangular frame and markings, R11/S, along with notches on the sides.

    Step 2

Locate the T10 torx screw in the center of each rotating latch.

    • Go to Step 3 to loosen latches
    • Go to Step 5 to tighten latches
  • Close-up of a dark mechanical component with several small screws and a central tab indicated by an orange arrow.

    Step 3

Turn each screw counterclockwise (lefty loosey) 1/2 turn to loosen the latches by 0.25mm.

  • A hand adjusts a small screw on a black mechanical device with multiple slots.

    Step 4

Pull each latch with your fingers to make sure they are extended and then try the fit on the grille.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 up to four times (two full turns) as needed.

Important! Contact support before proceeding past two turns. If loosened more than two turns, the SnapPlate could become stuck in the grille and it may be very difficult to remove.

  • Close-up of a black mechanical component with multiple linked sections fastened by screws. An orange arrow highlights one of the sections.

    Step 5

Turn each screw clockwise (righty tighty) 1/2 turn to tighten the latches by 0.25mm and try the fit on the grille.

    Repeat as needed.
