In the age of cars driving themselves, you'd think garage doors would be smart enough to not hit something in the way, but you'd be wrong. They do sense that they've hit something and open back up, but by that time the damage is already done...in this case, to my Model 3's front bumper!

To add insult to injury, we had a second mishap not long after where the hatch on our Model Y was scratched because it was open when someone pushed the button to close the garage door. It cost over $2000 in paint repairs to fix both!
To prevent this from happening to me or anyone else who parks in our garage ever again, I replaced the basic sensors that only measure 6" off the ground with full-coverage garage door sensors from Infinity Shield.

They use 25 invisible beams in a criss-cross pattern to monitor the entire door opening and prevent the garage door from closing if anything is in the way. That includes car bumpers, hatches, trunk lids, kids, pets and most anything else that basic, single-point sensors can easily miss.
They were simple to install using the existing four wires and they work with most garage door openers, so they're easy to recommend for every garage. They also have an optional feature that beeps when something is in the way, so you can use them as parking sensors to hear when your vehicle is parked far enough forward in the garage. Neat!
